Stop conspiring, start fighting: let’s change

September 2017

We are losing the most important war in human history. A war which has already killed thousands and will kill millions more if we don’t fight back. But we don’t care. Too complacent with our comfortable lives, unwilling to see who the true enemy is. With tanks at our borders, a war economy would be erected in no time. But where is this war economy when the enemy is closing in , gaining the upper hand and is causing havoc worldwide?

Not a no.1 priority worldwide, not a no.1 priority nationwide, rarely taken seriously by our organizations. How can we then fight back? The truth of the matter is that we are conspiring with the enemy, without laws yet in place to judge us, essentially participating in mass murder. It’s like in Game of thrones where everyone is so occupied grappling for power and wealth, fighting each other, while the white walkers are crushing down the walls. Future generations will erect a Nurenburg like tribunal and judge our generations harshly. We all knew and did nothing, out of mere convenience.

So, what can we do? Stop conspiring and start fighting global warming at full scale. Giving it its rightful place: our no.1 priority. This means changing ourselves, our institutions, our governments. Making conscious choices. Change what we teach (at accounting: accounting for CO2, at marketing: to persuade people to buy less and only sustainable, at IT: to eradicate e-waste and use IT for the sustainable grid), change what we eat (no/less meat), change the way we travel (no/less flying and driving), change who we vote for (green parties), change how we consume (less and sustainable), change our bank (sustainable) etc. We have tremendous power, let’s use it.

And yes, this type of change is scary, inconvenient and costly, but it’s a walk in the park compared to the uncontrollable destructive change that will come if we continue like this. Mass migration, due to drought, rising sea levels and intensified storms combined with mass extinction of species and thousands dying is not a picture you want to have your kids to see. Together we can create a happier future, a future with cleaner air, waters and soil, with more free time to spend on each other. So if you do want to change because of global warming, change because you are tired of the consumer driven rat race causing massive burn-outs and depression rates.

Let’s change.
